Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Questions Answered

What new students ask before their first class.

Do I need experience to start Brazilian jiu-jitsu?

No. Classes start with the fundamentals, stance, grips and escapes, before live rolling. Many students join with zero grappling experience.

What should I wear to my first class?

Comfortable workout clothes are fine for your first visit. Our coaches will talk you through gi and gear once you decide to continue.

How does belt grading work?

Every stripe and belt has written grading criteria, so you always know exactly what you're working toward and what you need to show to earn the next one.

Is Brazilian jiu-jitsu only for adults?

At Kaizen, Brazilian jiu-jitsu is our adult program. Kids train in our kids karate program instead.

What are your class times and membership options?

Class days and times are on our timetable, and every membership, including Kids program, Adult unlimited and Family of three, is listed on our memberships page.
